I know everybody says it but perseverance is an absolute prerequisite to becoming a published author. But there are other things that help too. I’m embarrassed to say how dumb I was about publication and for how many years. In my whole life, I had had no fiction published whatsoever, then, suddenly, in middle age, I’m publishing ten short stories a year and I get a book contract! I wrote a guest blog for Patty Jansen where I tried to sum up the things I’d learned that had led to my sudden success. It might be worth a look.

Had a pick at your other posts and have to congratulate you on all published short stories. Hope some day I can say the same. One step at a time… for now I’m still adjusting to my second language, to all rules that make good creative writing and to my dearest first novel manuscript… lol
