The Cast of Cargo Cult
Sam
A wannabe investigative reporter. She’s a ruthless, ambitious and self-obsessed young woman who sees her chance of a big story that will give her the career break she is looking for. Unfortunately for her, when the story of a lifetime breaks, she’s up to her neck in it.
Wayne
Sam’s loser younger brother. He’s a talented musician but he dropped out of university and now plays the local pubs and clubs to scratch a living. He’s fallen in with some local criminals and tries his hand at crime as a way out of his difficulties. When he wakes up one morning to find Drukk in his ute, his first reaction is to fall hopelessly in love.
Braxx
An alien from the planet Vingg. He is the pompous and stupid leader of an extremist religious sect. After crash-landing on Earth, he decides that his goddess must have wanted him to convert the humans. What he lacks in good judgement, he makes up for in mindless fervour.
Drukk
Another Vinggan, the sole surviving crew member. He’s a decent enough bloke, for an alien.
The Ship
The Vinggan spaceship is an illegal artificial intelligence. Unknown to the Vinggans, they are being manipulated by their intelligent machines. The ship is on a mission to infest the Earth with artificial sentience. Sadly, the human race is more backward than anyone suspected. And then it puts its trust in a mob of kangaroos.
The Agent
This is an artificial life-form, created by a powerful super-intelligent race, to hunt down the Vinggan spaceship and investigate their suspicions that it is sentient — a Galactic crime with severe penalties for the hapless Vinggans.
Mike
A detective sergeant in the police who becomes embroiled in the chaos left in the wake of the blundering Vinggans. When an eight-foot tall, armoured, alien hunter abducts him, he recognises a kindred spirit.
The Vinggans
12 other Vinggan survivors of the crash, all followers of Braxx. That all the Vinggans have disguised themselves as Lindsay Lohan is the very least of the mistakes they make.
The Receivers of Cosmic Bounty
Members of a human religious cult established as a scam by John, the guru guy, who just wanted to get some people to fix up his dilapidated farmhouse for him. Boy, is he surprised when the aliens actually arrive!
The Kanaka Downs Garden Club
A busload of grmpy old men and women who set off to see a show garden and end up in the middle of a massive police seige.
The Queensland Police Service
Not the real one, you understand, just a bunch of harrassed and confused people with the same name.
A mob of kangaroos
…which are really a gang of alien mobsters, transformed to look like kangaroos and exiled to Earth for 300 years as punishment for their crimes. They too get caught up in the Vinggans’ mayhem.
